CalWork’s programs

The CalWORKS program is designed to introduce resources to the unemployed population with children to reinstate them back into the workforce. The CalWORKS Outreach associated with St. John of God Health Care Services targets this population that is specifically facing a barrier to employment because of their drug and/or alcohol addictions.
The goal is to enroll this population with substance abuse problems into appropriate programs to meet their individual needs for recovery and a sober life. Upon entrance and at measurable milestones needed supplies and gift cards are presented as a reward for accomplishment. CalWORKS clients are also treated to celebratory events for themselves and their children.
CalWORKS clients are also provided with job skills training at the St. John of God Residential Program that includes resume preparation; interview skills; mock filmed interviews; Internet employment searches; computer training; and professional clothing.
