Samaritan’s Helping Hand (Samaritan’s) is a program offering emergency assistance to stabilize low-income and homeless families and individuals in crisis. Samaritan’s operates the High Deserts largest food pantry and the only one accessible to clients five days a week. Samaritan’s also provides utility payment assistance for gas, water, electricity and propane; rental assistance; emergency shelter assistance in the form of motel vouchers; emergency prescription assistance; assistance with ID/DMV; diapers, formula and baby food for infants; clothing and transportation assistance. These services provide nutritious food to the hungry, prevent low-income families from becoming homeless, assist households in danger of having vital utilities terminated, provide temporary housing to the homeless, and emergency prescription assistance provides individuals with vital and lifesaving medications when faced with illness. We are also the proud sponsors and coordinators of the High Desert Ministries Thanksgiving Project where Holiday meals are provided to low income families and ministries that prepare large meals for homeless and others in the community. We have an Adopt a Family Christmas Project in which families are adopted and provided with gifts, holiday meals and Christmas trees. We also sponsor our Easter Project in which Easter baskets are provided to low income children throughout our High Desert community. Located in Old Town Victorville, services are provided to residents of Victorville, Apple Valley, Hesperia, Adelanto, El Mirage, Phelan, Pinon Hills, Oak Hills, Oro Grande, Helendale, Barstow and Lucerne Valley.

We are funded and supported by St. Joseph Health Systems Foundation, St. Mary Medical Center, Emergency Food and Shelter Program, Desert Communities United Way, Town of Apple Valley CDBG, Stater Bros. Charities, 3M Corporation, Trinity Lutheran Church, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Zion Lutheran Church, Kaiser, EFSP, ICR Staffing and United Methodist Church as well as numerous community members. Second Time Around carries a wide variety of gently used goods for the discriminating shopper! Clothing, furniture, household goods, books and other items can be found to meet most needs. We have extremely reasonable prices to meet your families’ budget! Tax Deductible donations of items are greatly appreciated and can be dropped off daily from 8 am – 3 pm Monday thru Friday or you can call to arrange a pick up by us for large items or quantities. Proceeds from all sales go to help fund our programs. Volunteer opportunities are available.
