HOSPITALITY
St John of God’s form of hospitality was to welcome in and serve the sick as a brother and a neighbour. His main concern was to console his patients with his words, and then give them everything they needed. "In the morning, before leaving the house, he saw to it that they had enough provisions .... At night when the house had settled quietly down and in spite of the fact that he felt worn out; he would not retire until he had gone around visiting each and every patient. He consoled them with his kind words, giving them both spiritual and temporal comfort.” Loving the Lord in the poor and the sick gave him a joy which he was unable to disguise.
